Beijing World Youth Academy is a private, independent international school located in China’s capital city. Founded in 2001 with a small cohort of students studying the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, the school now has two urban campuses and classes from grades 1 to 12, and has developed a reputation for academic excellence coupled with a strong sense of community. A large percentage of our graduates have been accepted to leading world universities. Our school prides itself on providing a personalised environment for learning, due, in a large part, to a favourable faculty to student ratio of 1:7. Our pedagogy emphasises creativity, teamwork and a curriculum which incorporates standards from North America, Europe and Asia. We endeavour to create a friendly and studious environment, which also stresses maturity, service and personal accountability
BWYA is a Beijing international school for students of all nationalities aged 5 to 18, offering programmes taught in English with extensive language support where required. An IB World School since opening our doors in 2001, we are fully authorized to offer both the IB Diploma (DP) and IB Middle Years (MYP) Programmes. We also operate the innovative IN Programme for students who require additional language support, and in 2016 we incorporated the IGCSE. Our younger learners follow the International Primary Curriculum (IPC).
We value holistic, inquiry-based education and seek to create globally aware critical thinkers with a passion for their own community and culture. We are proud to be authorized by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission to enrol both local and foreign students, and over 25 nationalities are represented in our student body. This balance is reflected in our motto — locally grounded, globally aware — which lies at the heart of the work we do.
At BWYA, we know that some of the best learning happens outside the classroom, and we seek to give our students plenty of opportunities to venture into the real world and apply their knowledge and skills to real-life issues. This is central to our goal of helping our students to develop into inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people, and active and compassionate lifelong learners.
We also offer a wide variety of athletics programmes, clubs and after-school activities, which we believe are integral to an enriched student life. We provide comfortable and inspiring learning environments, across four modern campuses, that foster creativity and innovation.

Appropriate Facilities:
BWYA has made, and continues to make, significant investments in order to provide the best possible learning environment for all our students. Our classrooms are light and spacious, each equipped with the latest technology to allow students and teachers to take full advantage of multimedia resources. Our Science Labs are well equipped and stocked to allow for a wide range of experiments.
Across all our campuses, students have access to large outdoor and indoor sports facilities to help encourage participation in a wide range of sports and exercise and encourage healthy living. Our athletics venues also play host to multi-school sporting events and competitions.
BWYA is proud to encourage creativity and innovation, and to that end, our design and technology facilities feature cutting edge equipment including 3D printers, laser cutters and vacuum forming machines. Our art studios provide all the resources students may need to turn their ideas into reality and our libraries provide vital learning support with both fiction and non-fiction books, periodicals, and magazines for all ages.
Program
BWYA educates students for grades 1-12 with English as the language of instruction. There are three programmes: International Primary Curriculum (IPC) for grades 1 to 5, IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) for grades 6-10 and the IB Diploma Programme (DP) in grades 11-12. The MYP stresses interdisciplinary connections and prepares students for the full Diploma Programme. The DP is known as one of the most rigorous university preparatory programmes in the world with its emphasis on holistic education across six disciplines, evaluation of ideas, creativity, activity and service.
School Calendar
Beijing World Youth Academy (BWYA) holds a non-discriminatory admissions policy for both the expatriate and local communities. We seek to offer equal educational opportunities for those who are qualified and competent to meet the demands of our programmes. A qualified candidate is one who is able to prove the ability to achieve success in the school’s international programmes in English or Chinese university preparatory programme.
The academic school year consists of 180 school days divided into two semesters for DP students and three trimesters for MYP students. There are 25 class periods in each week, 5 periods per day. Twelfth grade students take the final IBDP written examinations in May and graduate in late May.
