In 1937 it was started by a retired headmistress and the name of this school was Welham Boys School, but due to lack of best girl’s school in Dehradun as well as in other cities in India, she planned to start a small boarding school for girls. But that time was not with her she needs more funds to run this school in a proper way, and with the help of another retired English woman, Grace Mary Linnel she started Welham Girls School in 1957. Linnell became the founder principal of this full-fledged prestigious boarding school. That time the school has only 10 girl’s students, with time it has grown to over 600 students.
