Dalat International School is an international day and boarding school in Penang, Malaysia. Originally founded as a boarding school for children of missionaries in Southeast Asia, it's now grown into an international school with a diverse student population. As of the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year, there are 600 students representing 25 different countries. It is one of eight schools on the island and is the only one offering an American curriculum.

Dalat is located on the beautiful island of Penang, Malaysia. Our oceanfront campus looks out on the legendary Straits of Malacca. Just as this historic sea passage has welcomed travelers from all points of the globe, so Dalat is home to a diverse group of gifted individuals who have traveled here from many nations.

STRONG PREPARATION FOR UNIVERSITIES WORLDWIDE

Dalat’s curriculum and instruction provide a broad basis in general education and a strong preparation for university systems worldwide; however, possession of a high school diploma does not guarantee admission to a post-secondary institution.

Students planning to pursue postsecondary education in countries other than the U.S. should consult country and university-specific entrance requirements. Families should do so in the beginning of grade 9, planning for necessary courses from the beginning of high school.

If a student requires courses not offered by Dalat International School, the family is encouraged to consult with the school’s Distance Education coordinator. Transfer credits from Internet education, correspondence, and home school courses may be considered for transfer credit and grade (and included in the Dalat International School transcript) if received through an accredited institution. Please meet with the school counselor if you have questions.

Dalat International School offers rigorous university preparatory programs including Advanced Placement courses. Both of these challenge the students with classes and activities that will prepare students for post-secondary education.

eLearning is a fast growing teaching tool all over the world and at Dalat. Take a look at the many courses and opportunities offered through this online medium that opens the world of possibilities to students.

Dalat also offers English as a Second Language (ESL) to advancing English language learners. Dalat does not have an ESL program for beginning learners of English. Students entering Dalat must have a good grasp of the English language before entering the school so that the student can be successful in the rigorous academic environment.

THE DALAT BOARDING COMMUNITY IS A HOME AWAY FROM HOME FOR OUR STUDENTS WHOSE PARENTS LIVE OUTSIDE OF PENANG.

The Dalat boarding community is a home away from home for DIS students whose parents live outside of Penang. Living in the dorms is a great way to make new friends and learn to become independent while living in a supportive and encouraging environment.

We strive to create a home-like atmosphere in each dorm so that students feel comfortable, secure and well cared for. Siblings live together in the same dorm and each family includes both genders and a variety of ages. We offer many family-bonding opportunities which help students connect with one another and feel a sense of belonging: birthday parties for each student, special outings and activities, dorm family devotions, homemade daily breakfast in the dorms and weekly special treats, service projects, dorm Christmas parties, Valentine’s Banquet and an annual dorm retreat.

CURRICULUM

AN AMERICAN-STYLE, COLLEGE-PREPARATORY CURRICULUM

An American-style, college-preparatory curriculum offers high school students the foundation necessary for their journey in life. A healthy selection of academic courses is offered in language arts, sciences, mathematics, social studies, Bible, and the performing and visual arts.

The curriculum produces students that are well-rounded and equipped to make a positive impact in their world. Dalat graduates have been accepted to prestigious colleges and universities all over the world.

Dalat also offers AP (Advanced Placement) courses. These courses offer qualified, motivated students the opportunity to do college-level work in high school and earn college credit. AP is an internationally recognized program.
