Tsinghua International School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges

Tsinghua International School was accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) in January 2016 for a period of 6 years.

WASC accreditation ensures that a school is “a trustworthy institution for student learning”. The process of WASC accreditation entails:

  • Vetting the appropriateness of the school’s purposes and the viability of its educational program.
  • Validating the legitimacy of the school’s transcripts.
  • Ensuring that the school has a plan for ongoing improvement.
  • Providing advice and insights regarding the school’s programs.

Facilities

THIS has an elementary school, middle school, and high school. Tsinghua International School recently finished the construction of another teaching building with new classrooms and science labs. In addition, the school is building an indoor gym. Other facilities include:

Program

Student at THIS all have access to all course offerings in the secondary school and are immersed in regular classes through primary and middle school. Based on diagnostic assessment results in literacy, student receive additional support for reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Differentiation is provided for the different types of learners within the regular classes with special consideration given for ELL levels, apparent gifted ness or lack of proficiency in specific areas until grade 11.

After grade 3, Chinese classes are organized relative to student proficiency levels. Throughout the school classes are aligned with standards/goals. Assessments, both authentic and test based, are also aligned with the standards. SWLO’s are focused within the curriculum units.

Students at the high school level are placed in some courses based on academic need, talent and interest. High school courses are all college preparatory. Twelve AP courses are offered to students.

Teachers review and revise curriculum based on student demographics, student achievement levels, educational trends, changes in standards and current research.
