Wynberg-Allen School was founded in 1888 and is one of India's oldest educational institutions. The school has always maintained an excellent standard of holistic education and co-curricular activities for its students . It is a residential co-educational institution and accommodates around 700 children out of whom 550 are boarders . Our well-experienced team of teaching and non-teaching staff ensures that the young people entering the world turn out to be responsible citizens capable of steering themselves and their country towards excellence.

Facilities

Academic Facilities :

Library : The library acts as a Centre of academic and intellectual development for staff and students, and contains encyclopedias, various series of world books and over 10,000 publications.The library subscribes to national and international periodicals, journals and newspapers.

Audio Visual Room : The Audio Visual Room is equipped with a television, tape-recorder, over-head projector, computer and LCD Projector. These audio visual aids help make teaching more effective, interesting and learning a multi-sensory process for students. Teachers use these to deliver lessons and screen educational films.

Computer Lab : Three internet-enabled computer laboratories with over a 150 computers are designed to meet the students’ Information Technology needs. Trained and experienced teachers provide both theoretical and practical lessons for students to help them navigate a rapidly changing technology driven world.

Science Lab : Three science laboratories provide requisite hands-on experience which is the heart of science teaching. Science teachers along with the lab assistant plan various demonstrations and experiments to ignite the curiosity and inculcate a scientific temperament in the students.

Performing Arts : A dedicated room is used to hone skills in vocal and instrumental music, dance and drama.

Art and craft : A bright, airy and inspiring room, which  allows students to explore a variety of media ranging from fine art, painting, drawing and craft to give expression to their creativity.

Play Area : The slides and swings make coming to school an enjoyable experience for young children, Junior School in particular.

Sports Facilities : The School has excellent sports facilities, which include indoor and outdoor basketball courts, two squash court, 20 table tennis tables, four badminton indoor courts, an indoor tennis court and 2 multipurpose grounds and a heated swimming pool. Opportunities for team games and physical training are facilitated by trained physical instructors and teachers. Students practice yoga and pursue sports like table tennis, volleyball, basketball, badminton, throwball, squash, tennis, swimming and athletics. They also enjoy board games like carrom and chess. The annual Inter-school and Inter-house athletics meet is held to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship every year.

After School Program : The educational enrichment hour offers an array of additional services, programs and activities that reinforce and complement the school’s academic program. These activities involve the visual and performing arts, music, physical and health programme and general recreation. Avenues to promote career awareness; community service and other youth development activities are provided based on student needs and interests.

Teacher Development Program : A school’s most important asset is its teaching force and hence the most rewarding investment a school can make is to ensure that teachers continue to learn. Training of teachers is a regular and on-going activity. The School, along with the Aga Khan Education Service, India conducts an in-depth analysis to identify relevant, training needs required for its teachers.

Academic Resources :

Research tells us that children learn in a variety of ways. Understanding and addressing these differences helps the Academic Resource Center to be more effective in preparing students to succeed both on campus and in the world. We strive to develop our students’ comfort and confidence in the classroom while invigorating their love of learning.

LEARNING SPECIALISTS : A student with a diagnosed learning difference may be referred to a learning specialist for support with study skills, content-area comprehension, organization and time management. Our learning specialists demonstrate and apply strategies and techniques to best assist the whole child.

TUTORING : Any student experiencing academic difficulty in any subject may be referred for tutoring services. The Academic Resource Center refers such students to the on campus teachers during the school day. All tutors are school teachers who choose to help weak students.

READING : Reading is taken very seriously at Wynberg-Allen School and 2 compulsory lessons in a week are devoted to reading for the entire school. It is designed to solidify and advance techniques that will encourage students to become more effective readers and to accept the challenge to read difficult books.

Program

Junior School : The Wynberg Allen School which is from classes one to six, takes care of children between 6-12 years of age. Under the loving guidance and care of the Headmistress, Mrs.L.Cashmore and a team of experienced staff, nervous apprehensive children who have never been away from home before are helped to blossom into confidence and self reliant little individual ready to move on to the Senior School. The Junior School is equipped with beautiful classrooms, a computer laboratory, an audio visual room and a well stocked library. It also has an assembly hall where many entertaining plays have been staged. A basketball court, a skating ring, a cricket field and a large gymnasium ensure that the little ones remain physically active and fit.

The Junior School has a three-storied Health Center where two qualified nurses are always present to take care for medically unfit children.

In addition to the formal education imparted in the classroom, the children are also taught important social skills and manners. The staff also endeavours to helps the children develop communication and conversational skills, particularly in English.

Senior School : The Wynberg-Allen Senior school is from classes seven to twelve and caters to the needs of children between 13-18 years. In addition to preparing students for the I.S.C. and I.C.S.E. Examinations, the Senior School conducts several activities like quizzing, dramatics, debating, elocution, creative writing, spelling bee competitions, athletics and sports like hockey, cricket, basketball, tennis, badminton, soccer and chess.

All these activities are conducted by the experienced and competent staff of the Senior School and are most ably overseen by the Headmaster, Mr. P. Radcliffe and the Principal, Mr. L. Tindale.

Well equipped science and computer laboratories, an audio visual room, a well stocked library, a state of the art auditorium, an indoor heated swimming pool, a large playing field where the school hosts various inter-school sporting events, a skating rink, a basketball court and a spacious gymnasium ensure that the children who pass out of the school portals are truly well-rounded and well groomed young ladies and gentlemen who stand out in a crowd because of their sophisticated and refined demeanour.
