Boarding Schools in Ontario

In east-central Canada, Ontario is a province that borders the U.S. and the Great Lakes. It is the most populous province of Canada by a large margin, accounting for nearly 40% of all Canadians, and is the second-largest province in total area. Education in Ontario

Education in Ontario is composed of public and private primary and secondary schools and post-secondary institutions. As per right of the constitution of Canada, Roman Catholics are entitled to their own school system. School boards of Ontario are divided among four large separate publicly funded school systems: 31 English public, 29 English Catholic, four French public, and eight French Catholic. Education falls entirely under provincial jurisdiction in Ontario. No federal government department or agency is involved in the formation or analysis of policy regarding education. Publicly funded elementary and secondary schools are managed by the Ontario Ministry of Education, while colleges and universities are managed by the Ontario Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development. In Ontario, education is governed by the Education Act. Provincial, federal, and international human rights codes and charters have stipulations on learning experiences of children. Nearly all Ontario public schools, and most private schools, follow the Ontario Curriculum. It has specific requirements about knowledge and behaviors to be learned, while allowing flexibility in how the curriculum is delivered. In Ontario, 61% of people with the lowest literacy levels are employed, while 82% of people with the highest levels of literacy are in the workforce.
