Boarding Schools in Victoria

Victoria is the most densely populated state of Australia, and the second-most populous state overall. It is located in southeast of Australia. Port Phillip Bay includes the metropolitan area of its state capital and also the largest city. Melbourne is the second-largest city in Australia and also the capital city of Victoria. The 2011 Australian census reported that Victoria had 5,354,042 people resident at the time of the census.

Education in Victoria

Education in Victoria, Australia is supervised by the Department of Education and Training (DET), which is part of the State Government and whose role is to 'provide policy and planning advice for the delivery of education'. Education in Victoria follows the three-tier model consisting of primary education (primary schools), followed by secondary education (secondary schools or secondary colleges) and tertiary education (Universities and TAFE Colleges). School education is mandatory in Victoria for students with ages of six and seventeen. A student is free to leave school on turning seventeen, which is prior to completing secondary education. Education in government run schools is free until the age of 12; this does not apply to overseas students or to students over the age of 20 as on 1st January of the year of enrolment.  Independent schools, both religious and secular charge fees that are subsidized by the Federal and State governments. Non-tertiary public education is free even though 35% of students attend a private primary or secondary school. The most numerous private schools are Catholic, and the rest are independent.
