Boarding Schools in Missouri

Achieving statehood in 1821, Missouri state is located in the Midwestern region of the United States. It is the 18th most populous state with over six million residents and host to the mean center of United States population. St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield, and Columbia are the largest urban areas. The capitol is in Jefferson City on the Missouri River. The state is the 21st most extensive by area and is geographically diverse. The Northern Plains were once covered by glaciers, then tallgrass prairie, and now the deep soils yield great agricultural productivity. In the South are the Ozarks, a forested highland, providing timber, minerals, and recreation. The eastern border of the state is formed by The Mississippi River, eventually flowing into the swampy Missouri Bootheel. As a border state, Missouri's role in the American Civil War was complex and there were many conflicts within. Missouri's culture blends elements from the Midwestern and Southern United States. The musical styles of ragtime, Kansas City jazz, and St. Louis Blues, developed in Missouri. The well-known Kansas City-style barbecue, and lesser-known St. Louis-style barbecue can be found across the state and beyond. Missouri is bounded by Iowa on the north; by Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee across the Mississippi River on the east; on the south by Arkansas; and by Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska (the last across the Missouri River) on the west. Whereas the northern and southern boundaries are straight lines, the Missouri Bootheel protrudes southerly into Arkansas. The Mississippi (which defines the eastern boundary of the state) and the Missouri River (which flows from west to east through the state) are the two largest rivers, essentially connecting the two largest metros of Kansas City and St. Louis. Missouri generally has a humid continental climate with cold snowy winters and hot, humid, and wet summers.

The public schools system includes kindergarten to 12th grade. District territories are often complex in structure. In some cases, elementary, middle and junior high schools of a single district feed into high schools in another district.
