The U.S. state Wisconsin is situated in the north-central United States, in the Midwest and Great Lakes regions. The climate of Wisconsin is classified as warm-summer humid continental, while southern and southwestern portions are classified as hot-summer humid continental climate.

Education in Wisconsin

Wisconsin, along with Minnesota and Michigan, was among the Midwestern leaders in the emergent American state university movement following the Civil War in the United States. By the start of the 20th century, education in the state advocated the "Wisconsin Idea", which emphasized service to the people of the state. The "Wisconsin Idea" exemplified the Progressive movement within colleges and universities at the time. Public post-secondary education in Wisconsin comprised of both the 26-campus University of Wisconsin System, with the flagship university University of Wisconsin–Madison, and the 16-campus Wisconsin Technical College System. The Wisconsin public school system (prekindergarten through grade 12) operates within districts governed by locally elected school boards and superintendents. In 2013, Wisconsin had 872,436 students registered in a total of 2,238 schools in 464 school districts. There were 57,551 teachers in the public schools, or roughly one teacher for every 15 students, compared to the national average of 1:16. There was roughly one administrator for every 358 students, compared to the national average of one administrator for every 295 students. On average Wisconsin spent $11,071 per pupil in 2013, which ranked it 22nd highest in the nation. The state's graduation rate was 88% in 2013.
